As Maria Moses -- a former cocaine trafficker turned community activist -- sits perched in her South Baltimore home, the self-dubbed "Boss of Mount Clare" keeps her eyes focused on the dealers, prostitutes and criminals walking the streets of Wilkens Avenue. In fact, if a crime is committed on her block chances are Moses has the offense on tape.
Such was the case in late December when several men tried to rob a local resident, beating him with a gun and kicking him until he fought them off.
"They kept hitting him with the gun," Moses said. "You don't do that to my Spanish [people]."
Police were called and responded to Wilkens Ave. Two men who witnesses say were involved in the attack were arrested and charged with drug possession.
One of the men, an 18-year-old, has a hearing March 11. Another, a 23-year-old who like his teenage co-defendant also lives nearby the crime scene, has a hearing on March 27 in Baltimore City District Court.
Police have been to Moses' home to review her video as evidence in the crime.

As for Maria, she's a strong lady and does her best to chase off addicts and dealers. Maria puts her life on the line, not always wise but she's at least trying where others are not. Maria may have her issues, but I don't see anyone else on those streets cleaning it up. Those often, who complain of Maria, are the ones she chases off due to their involvement in the drug and prostitution trade in Mount Clare. The police have captured many people involved in the drug trade in the area thanks to Maria, and their out to get her for it. And to those out there after Maria, there is someone waiting in the winds to be worst than she and you have it coming.
