STEPHEN JANIS | Senior Reporter & Content Director


Stephen Janis is an award-winning investigative reporter. As a staff writer for the Baltimore Examiner (and one of only a handful who worked at the paper for its entire existence) he won a Maryland- Delaware-DC Press Association award in 2008 for investigative reporting on the high rate of unsolved murders in Baltimore. In 2009 he won a MDDC Press Association award for best series for his articles on the murders of prostitutes. Covering City Hall and crime, Janis revealed that a city parking agent was writing fake tickets, leading to an ongoing investigation by Baltimore City Inspector General Hilton Green. In 2007, Janis won an award from the Baltimore Chapter of the NAACP for his coverage of issues affecting the black community. You Are Never Alone, an advocacy group for prostitutes, gave Janis an award in February 2009 for a series of stories about numerous unsolved homicides of women in Baltimore. Prior to joining the Examiner, Janis was a contributing writer for the Baltimore City Paper. He is an instructor at the Johns Hopkins University's School of Communication in Contemporary Society, in Washington, D.C., and at Towson University. The New York City native is a graduate of Hamilton College.

Regina-Holmes

Regina Holmes has worked as a journalist for almost 20 years — most of them at Pulitzer Prize-winning newspapers. As an assistant managing editor of the Baltimore Examiner, she helped launch the daily paper in April 2006 and directed coverage in Baltimore City and Baltimore County until the paper's demise in February 2009. Holmes formerly worked as an assistant city editor at Newsday's New York City edition. She also has worked at the Miami Herald as assistant business editor and copy editor. The Baltimore native graduated from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Vassar College and the Bryn Mawr School.

Alan Z. Forman is a political scientist (Columbia University, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where he was a President's Fellow while completing doctoral studies) and freelance writer/editor who formerly worked as a reporter/ copy editor for the Baltimore Sun.  A Navy veteran, he served as principal speechwriter for the United States Small Business Administrator and Federal Maritime Commission Chairman as well as other high-ranking presidential appointees, members of Congress and military leaders, and has been an adjunct professor at Loyola University Maryland plus other academic institutions in the Baltimore metropolitan area.  The Charm City native grew up in Reservoir Hill, Windsor Hills and Mt. Washington, and is a graduate of Baltimore City College.

Kevin E. Dayhoff has been a freelance writer and artist since 1971. He currently contributes to several publications including Explore Carroll for Patuxent Publishing Co., and The Tentacle. A frequent guest on the Marc Steiner Show on WEAA-FM radio, in 2009 he won a Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association award for editorial critical thinking for an investigation into a racial incident involving a Carroll County School Board member. In 2006, he was recognized by George Washington University for authoring one of the top 12 Maryland and Virginia political websites. From 2004-05 he wrote a weekly column for the Westminster Advocate, a Landmark Community Newspapers publication. He served as Mayor of Westminster from 2001-2005 and as a Westminster city councilman from 1999-2001. A self-employed nursery stock farmer, landscape designer, property management consultant, and freelance technical writer from 1974-99, he served as a statewide elected member of the Maryland Municipal League Board of Directors from 2000-05. He is currently a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Capitol Beat – Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors, the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department, Maryland Troopers Association, and a Silver Life member of the NAACP. He is a native of Westminster, Carroll County, MD, where he currently lives.
